Champagne Weekend with Dinner at Moet et Chandon, Reims, 15 – 17 September

Your weekend of Champagne

Reims, the capital of the Champagne region and home to many Champagne houses’, Mumm, Lanson, Pommery, Ruinart and Veuve Clicquot (known in the trade as ‘The Widow) to name but a few, many of which are within the elite of only 16 houses being honoured by L’Academie du Champagne as Grande Marques.

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015, Avenue de Champagne is a succession of elegant residences and châteauxs with paved courtyards and luxuriant gardens. They tell the tale of the golden age of Champagne and the history of the first Champagne Houses, which were established on the avenue in the 18th century.

Your 5* hotel for the break is located just opposite the 13th Century Gothic Reims Cathedral where every King of France was crowned. The Cathedral has many stained-glass windows with some dating back to 14th Century and one dedicated to the production and enjoyment of Champagne.

There will be plenty of time during your two night stay to explore the region and maybe make a purchase or two at one of the houses, we will be happy to offer advice as to which houses you might
like to visit, but we do suggest that we make a reservation for you prior to the weekend.

Friday 15th September

On arrival in Reims you will check in to the lovely 5* La Caserne Chanzy Hotel and Spa, your base for the weekend. Private or valet parking is available at the hotel

Later in the afternoon we will head out to a local village for a visit to the vineyards and a tasting experience. You will get to taste four different Champagnes; the growers are very generous with their pouring. Don’t worry, we will be arranging luxury coach transfers from the hotel.

After the visit we will adjourn to the Le Comptoir à Bulles in Sacy, a local hidden gem of a restaurant where we will enjoy a relaxed dinner with accompanying wines.

Our bi-lingual host for the visit is a Champagne importer who spent 10 years living in the Champagne region in France.

Saturday 16th September

There will be plenty of free time during the day for you to explore the city or region at leisure or to enjoy the wonderful hotel spa. We will supply maps of Reims and Epernay prior to the weekend.

The highlight of the trip will be the private evening visit to the noble house of Moet et Chandon, probably the most famous of all the Champagne houses which was established in Epernay by Claude Moet in 1743. Owning 2,900 acres of vineyards in Epernay and the Montagne de Reims, Moet produces up to 28 million bottles of Champagne per year and during dinner each course will be accompanied by a different style of Moet.

We will start with a tour of this wonderful House and cellars before heading into dinner, in the candlelight Napoleon Cellars where the reception will include Dom Perignon, the most famous of all champagnes.

Transfers will be arranged to Moet et Chandon.
